BaZi, Free Will and Timing

A common question from new readers: if my chart shows a difficult period, can I change anything, or is it all fixed? The classical view is not fatalism. A Bazi chart describes patterns and timing, and what you do with that understanding is up to you.

A weather forecast, not a verdict

One way to think about it: a forecast tells you the weather is likely to be stormy tomorrow. It does not stop you from carrying an umbrella, or from choosing a different day to travel. A Bazi chart works in a similar way. It describes tendencies and phases, so you can plan with more awareness. It does not decide for you.

Pattern and timing

  • Pattern: the balance of the five elements in the chart, and how the Day Master relates to the rest.
  • Timing: the Luck Pillars and yearly changes, which describe different phases of a life.

Knowing the pattern and the phase can help with choices such as when to push ahead, when to be careful with money, and when to take time to prepare.

What it does not claim

  • It does not claim that events are fixed in advance.
  • It does not replace professional medical, legal or financial advice.
  • It does not guarantee outcomes, and a good reader will say so.

Using a reading in practice

Most people book a reading to think through a decision with a reader who explains the reasoning. See Bazi for decision making, Luck Pillars explained and the online Bazi reading.
