Chinese Wedding Date Selection: How It Works, With 2026 Dates
Chinese wedding date selection (择日) chooses a day for the ceremony using a traditional almanac and, for a closer fit, the couple's own Bazi charts. A general almanac list can tell you which days are broadly favourable. A personal selection checks those days against both partners' charts.
Two ways to choose a date
| General almanac (tong shu) | Personal selection | |
|---|---|---|
| Based on | The calendar day itself | The calendar day plus both partners' Bazi charts |
| Result | A list of broadly good days | A shortlist of days that suit the two of you, and suitable hours |
| Limit | The same list goes to everyone | Needs both partners' birth details |
A day that suits one couple may not suit another, which is why the final choice is best based on personal charts.
What a personal selection checks
- Your birth charts. The reader prepares both Bazi charts from the birth date and time.
- Zodiac clashes. A day can clash with a certain zodiac animal. The list below shows which zodiac to avoid on each day. Close family who will attend may also be checked.
- The year and month. The Bazi calendar follows solar terms, so the dates around Lichun need care. See the 2027 Fire Goat year.
- The hour. For the ceremony itself, a suitable time of day can be chosen.
- Practical limits. Venue availability, school or work, and family plans also count. The best date is one that is both suitable and workable.
Remaining 2026 wedding dates
These dates come from a general almanac list that Master Mandy Lim published for 2026 couples (updated 4 October 2026). Earlier dates on that list have passed. Use it as a reference. A personal selection is still advised.
| Solar date | Lunar date | Day | Zodiac to avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 Nov 2026 | 9th month, day 30 | Sunday | Dragon |
| 12 Dec 2026 | 11th month, day 4 | Saturday | Tiger |
| 20 Dec 2026 | 11th month, day 12 | Sunday | Dog |
The “zodiac to avoid” means the day clashes with that animal. If you or a close family member has that zodiac, ask about another date.
Beyond the date: compatibility
A wedding is one day, and a marriage is the years afterwards. Many couples also have their charts compared before the wedding, to see how each person tends to communicate and where friction might come up. This is not a pass-or-fail test. It is a way to understand each other earlier. Read Bazi compatibility to see what it can and cannot say.
How to ask for a wedding date selection
- Prepare both partners' birth date, birth time and birth place.
- Note your preferred time window, for example a month or a season, and any dates that are not possible.
- List relatives whose zodiac you would like checked.
- Message us on WhatsApp. We confirm the fee and send the selection report as a PDF with an image version.
Date selection starts from RM 199, and the fee depends on the occasion. See the date selection page and pricing.
Date selection is a traditional practice. A good date does not replace careful planning. It does not guarantee any result.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is a general wedding date list enough?
A general list shows which days are broadly favourable, and it can be a good starting point. For a closer fit, the date is checked against both partners' Bazi charts, and often against the zodiac of close family.
What do I need for a personal wedding date selection?
Both partners' birth date, birth time and birth place, your preferred time window, and any dates that cannot work. Mention relatives whose zodiac you would like checked.
What does 'zodiac to avoid' mean?
It means the day clashes with that zodiac animal in the traditional calendar. If you or a close family member has that animal, a different date is usually considered.
How much does wedding date selection cost?
Date selection starts from RM 199, depending on the occasion. The fee is confirmed in writing before you book.
Can a wedding date be chosen online?
Yes. Date selection is done by message and video, and the report is sent as a PDF with an image version.
Do I need to be Chinese to use a wedding date selection?
No. It is a traditional Chinese practice, but anyone can use it. You only need the birth details of both partners.
