AI Bazi Calculator vs Live Bazi Consultation: What Free Software Can and Cannot Tell You
A free Bazi calculator, or an AI chart app, converts your birth details into four pillars and lists the elements and Ten Gods in seconds. A live consultation starts from the same chart, but the reader weighs it against your situation, helps you ask a clear question and explains the reasoning. Both are useful, and they do different jobs.
What a calculator does well
Working out a Bazi chart by hand needs a calendar conversion and the right solar terms, so software is a real help.
- Accurate pillars. A good calculator converts your birth date and time into the year, month, day and hour pillars, following solar terms rather than the lunar new year. See What is Bazi?
- A quick overview. It lists the Day Master, the five-element count, the Ten Gods and the Luck Pillars.
- Free to explore. You can test other charts, such as family members, without booking anything.
Our own free Bazi calculator does this, and also shows yearly and monthly star ratings, which are rule-based and shown for reference only. The star ratings method page explains how they are scored.
What a calculator cannot do
- Count elements by rule, not by weight. Many tools simply count how many characters belong to each element. A reader looks at the season, the position of each character and how strong the Day Master is, which can change the picture.
- Check your birth time. If your birth time is uncertain, or close to a boundary such as the late night Zi hour, a calculator takes your input as given. See Bazi without a birth time.
- Know your situation. A chart pattern means different things for a student, a parent or a business owner.
- Help you ask the question. A tool shows everything at once. It does not tell you which part matters for the decision in front of you.
- Answer follow-up questions. You cannot ask why a particular reading was given, or what would change it.
Calculator and consultation side by side
| Free calculator or AI app | Live consultation | |
|---|---|---|
| Four pillars | Calculated automatically | Prepared and checked by the reader |
| Element balance | Often a simple count | Weighed by season, position and Day Master strength |
| Your situation | Not considered | Applied to your questions |
| Birth time doubts | Taken as entered | Discussed, with limits explained |
| Follow-up questions | Usually none | Yes, in the session |
| Cost | Free or low cost | Paid |
When a free tool is enough
- You are curious and want to see what a Bazi chart looks like.
- You want to learn the terms: Day Master, elements, Ten Gods and Luck Pillars.
- You want to check a chart someone gave you.
When a live consultation helps
- You are weighing a real decision, such as a career change, a business move or a relocation. See Bazi for decision making.
- You are not sure of your birth time and want to know what a reading can still say.
- You want the reasoning explained, so that you can judge it yourself.
- You want to ask follow-up questions.
In an online reading with Master Mandy Lim, you get a 60-minute one-to-one video consultation, up to 10 questions, a recording and a written report. See the Bazi reading page and pricing.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is a free Bazi calculator accurate?
A good one calculates the four pillars correctly from your birth data, including solar terms. The calculation is the easy part. The interpretation, such as which elements matter most and what they mean for your question, still needs a reader's judgement.
Do I still need a consultation if I already have my chart from an app?
Not necessarily. If you only want the chart and the terms, an app is enough. A consultation helps when you have a decision or a question and want the chart read in your situation.
Why do two Bazi calculators sometimes show different charts?
Differences usually come from the birth time or time zone entered, how the late night Zi hour is handled, or whether the tool uses solar terms for the month. Check these settings first.
Can an AI app give a good Bazi reading?
It can summarise the standard meanings of a chart quickly. It does not know your situation unless you state it, and it cannot check whether your question is clear or explain its choices in a conversation.
Is your own calculator a reading?
No. The free calculator shows your chart, Luck Pillars and rule-based yearly and monthly star ratings, for reference only. A reading adds a reader's interpretation of your situation.
What do I need for a live reading?
Your birth date, birth time as exact as possible, birth place and your main questions. If you do not know your birth time, tell us when you book.
